Onward Christian Soldiers

We heard that there are no little 5-6 year old girls for our family in the region of Valle del Cauca.  So our file is being sent back to Bogota.  We remain on the top of the very high pile of family files, which is good.  We will have another regional assignment soon, and then the customary 30-60 day wait for a referral.  I’ve had high hopes before, but I’m already seeing the very real possibility of only 5 stockings hung by the chimney with care AGAIN.

God is still on the throne.  He still has our little girl picked out that is perfect for us…. and we are perfect for her.  His timing is also perfect.  (I keep telling myself that over and over.)

Her Name is Beautiful!

We got THE call this morning!  Our girl is gorgeous!  She is so perfect, I cannot even tell you!  She just turned seven and no, she doesn’t have all her baby teeth, but I’m OK with that.  The only measurements we have are a year old, so we asked for new sizes!  I think all the size 5 clothes might work!  Bonus!  And her name is beautiful…. and it means light.  Perfect.

I’m exhausted and thrilled and teary and overjoyed and overwhelmed and giddy and I keep staring at this darling little face on the computer screen!

Waiting for the 817 Area Code

We are on day #25 of our 30 day window when our referral call will come.  This is exhausting.  My hot pink cell phone is glued to my body from the moment my eyes pop open until 3:00 p.m.  The call will come from Texas and they are two hours ahead of us… and they stop working at 5:00.  I breathe a disappointed sigh of relief every day at 3:00.  “OK, another day down.  Another day closer to the call!”

Fridays at 3:00 totally wear me out.  It means I have to wait until Monday morning.  Last Friday afternoon I collapsed on the couch and didn’t recover until Sunday afternoon.  Good grief!  This is like the last few weeks of pregnancy when you’re so tired you’re cross-eyed and frazzle-brained.

We found out this week about some unexpected fees…. to the tune of an extra $1840.  If you’re the praying type, please pray.  If you’re not the praying type…. I don’t recommend adopting internationally.  It’s a faith walk.  But faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen.

Hold on, Zaza!  We’re coming for you in November!  Buckle your seatbelt, sweetheart, there’s a ton of love coming your way!  XOXO

Our FBI Prints are BACK!

WOW!  That only took six business days!  I was expecting W-A-Y longer.  I still have to send them off to West Virginia for the apostille, but still this was one quick return!  Hip hip hooray for the FBI!

One week from today is THIRTY DAYS after our file was sent to Valle del Cauca!!!!!  Our referral could come starting next MONDAY!  Bring it on, baby!

I’m Losing Sleep

This is exactly like the end of a pregnancy…. I wake up and my mind goes CRAZY!  And I can’t go back to sleep.  I’m just not going to the bathroom every twenty minutes like big-belly pregnancy

We are exactly one week from the 30-day mark from when our file left ICBF and was sent to Valle del Cauca.  We’ve been told we will get the referral call within 30-60 days.  That could be NEXT WEEK!  After all this waiting for almost four years…. you’d think I’d be plenty ready.  But I’m all jittery and anxious and restless.  The heightened anxiety level has completely erased the minimal Spanish that I knew only a month ago.  I’m not sure what to do about that.  I think it’s too late for ginkgo biloba!   Ha ha!

I’ve finished Zaza’s tea-table and it has three coats of minwax for protection.  It probably needs about eight coats!  Not wanting the painting and decorating to end… I bought a little seat from an adult vanity.  I’m going to turn it into a sink and stove top for Zaza’s little kitchen in her room.  I need to keep these hands busy!!!

We Got Our Regional Assignment!

There it is…. Valle del Cauca.  Which means Zaza could be in Cali, which is what I have been praying for.  Fellow Gladney mom, Kelly, was in Cali last week picking up her darling GG.  Kelly’s entire Colombian stay was three weeks to the day!  She comes home tonight from Bogota.  She reported the courts in Cali are fast, as well as the attorney is professional and speedy too.  YES!

Of course, my beach-loving 16-year-old took one look at the regional map and is hoping for Buenaventura….right on the BEACH!

This is so exciting…. but still doesn’t tell us all the little details I’m earnestly awaiting…. like her NAME!  And her size.  And does she have dimples?  And does she have all her baby teeth still?  And how old is she?  I’m not very good at waiting.

Your Room is DONE, Baby Girl!

We have Zaza’s room about 98% completed!  Yeeehaw!  Her frames are awaiting pictures of her smiling face… and her curtains still need tie-backs.  But other than a little girl to snuggle in there, we are done!

Her purple bed was a gift from the heart from Uncle Bruce and Auntie Connie Grandma and I found her bedside table at an antique store and I re-did it in purple to match.  The butterfly rug is a gift from the heart from Ms. Donna.

Ok, her tea-table is not done either… I still have flowers and butterflies to paint on there.  The table was a gift from the heart from Ms. Missy.  One chair was found at a garage sale with Ms. Darla, and the other at Goodwill. (Auntie Christy’s favorite store.)  Eventually, Zaza’s purses will hang on the rack and her hats on the stand.  The tea set was cousin Whitney’s when she was a little girl.  And there is the dolly I made for her that I think we will keep calling Zaza…. because our little Zaza will have her own name…. we just don’t know it yet.

Zaza’s dresser was Auntie Julie’s when she was a little girl.  The darling lamps are from Auntie Connie, as well as the book ends.

Ms. Beth helped me paint the flowers, dragonflies, butterflies and birdhouses with glitter paint for the border around the room.

I keep wandering in the buttery-yellow room (partly because it’s the only clean room in the house) because I can’t wait for our little girl to feel the love in there!

Adoption “Fun”draising

When we acted on our call to adopt a little Colombian princess, we had no idea how God would accomplish this great dream in our hearts.  We have been amazed, amused, humbled and blessed!  At the moment 82% of our funds are in, but with all international adoptions, we have one last large lump to raise.  I’ve been inspired to get Bags For Zaza rolling again.  My sister-in-law, Jennie, started it two years ago…. sewing messenger bags, purses and totes to raise money for Zaza to come home.  I believe BFZ raised over $6000!!!  Then we all got busy and overwhelmed with life and it came to a screeching halt.  I’ve been cutting out bags whilst on vacation, so I can sew when we get home!  I’ll keep you posted for upcoming auctions.

We also have been encouraged by friends and neighbors who are jumping on the bandwagon to bring our little girl home.  Our neighborhood group is scheming as well.  Wonderful friends! Please pray that God will unveil where the remainder of the adoption funds are hidden…. while we work like it depends on us, but pray and believe like we know it depends on God.
