Adoption Progress

For those who might wonder what’s going on with our adoption, I’ve put together a time line of our adoption process to this point.  People frequently ask us, “What’s happening with Zaza?“  And our answer is…. “we’re waiting.”  It’s not comforting to be reminded of how long it’s been, but it is reassuring to know people care and are praying… and with each day, we’re one day closer to Zaza being home.  Here’s the whole shabang:

Nov. 2006   Started looking at agencies

Feb. 12, 2007   Sent Application to Commonwealth

May 9   I-600A Application sent

Jun. 14   Homestudy completed

July   Psychological Testing and Report

Aug. 29   Received I-171H

Oct. 20   Dossier sent to Colombia

Feb. 7, 2008   Approved by ICBF in Colombia (Yippy!)

Jun. 14   Update USCIS fingerprints

Aug. 5   Commonwealth Adoptions Int’l Closed

Sep. 25   Signed with Gladney Center for Adoptions

Nov. 8   Update and Addendum to Homestudy

Jan. 20, 2009  Home Study Extension Apostilled and sent for translation

The February approval started our official wait time.  We’ve heard the wait is between 4 and 30 months.

Hello World!

This is Zaza’s Mama, Linda, and I thought it would be a fabulous idea to start an adoption blog for Zaza.  I do post regularly about our adoption progress, frustrations and victories on my regular blog,  In the next few weeks I’ll be transferring all of my adoption posts from MSJ to this blog, so they are all in one place.

Zaza is the nickname our little Colombian was christened by her Autnie Jennie… basically so we would stop referring to her as “our little girl in Colombia.”  It was a bit long, I’ll admit.  So it has stuck.  Zaza’s room is ready for her.  Zaza is part of every day conversation in our home.  She has been in our hearts for a few years now and we can’t wait to bring her to her forever home.

This week’s progress:  We finally received two more copies of the notarizes Home Study Extension, so yesterday I had them apostilled and sent one off to Florida for translation with Gladney, our agency.  They will send it on to ICBF because we decided to increase the age of our little girl from 3-5 (which we thought was 3,4 and 5… but no, only 3 and 4.) to 3-7 (which is 3,4,5, and 6.)

This week’s victories:  Friends of ours gave a large donation to help bring Zaza home.  Totally a blessing from God.  When they gave it, they asked, “Will this help?”  And they were serious.  haha.  OF COURSE!  We have prayed all along, for over 2 years, that God would reveal where He is hiding our adoption funds.  He has been faithful over and over, bit by bit, to reveal His financial plan four our little Colombian to come home.  He proved faithful again this week.  Praise God!
